The Cozy Theatre in Wadena is a beautiful art deco gem. The Cozy is one key element that makes this Festival a success.

Tickets are now on sale at the Cozy Theatre Box office, the New York Mills Regional Cultural Center, & Harvest Thyme Bistro in Wadena.

Buy a Festival Pass (six movies for $30) at Harvest Thyme Bistro or the NY Mills Cultural Center and receive a coupon good for two-for-one meal at Harvest Thyme Bistro. Your first entree is regular price and the second (equal or lesser cost) is free! Harvest Thyme will be open Friday and Saturday after the final shows of the night for drinks and dessert. Brunch at Harvest Thyme on Sunday is 10:00am-2:00pm.

Admission $6.50 per film. A festival pass (6 movies) is $30.

Senior admission $5.50 per film; youth admission $4.50 per film.

The 2011 Festival has three parts:

1. The best in current cinema

During the week of September 9-15 six films-all in current theatrical release-will be screened at the Cozy Theatre.


Sarah's Key, directed by Gilles Paquet-Brenner and starring Kristin Scott Thomas, Melusine Mayance, and Aiden Quinn.

Cave of Forgotten Dreams, directed by Werner Herzog. A 3-D documentary of the Chauvet cave paintings.

Buck, directed by Cindy Meehl, is a documentary of a true American cowboy, Buck Brannaman.

The Tree of Life, directed by Terrence Malik and starring Brad Pitt, Sean Penn, and Jessica Chastain.

Terri, directed by Azazel Jacobs and starring John C. Reilly and Jacob Wysocki.

Midnight in Paris, directed by Woody Allen and starring Owen Wilson, Rachel McAdams, and Kathy Bates.

 

2. Short films by Minnesota filmmakers

There is also a Minnesota Short Film event as part of the Festival.  Submissions are sought for films made in Minnesota by Minnesota residents in 2010 or 2011.  Films should be submitted in DVD format and should have a runtime between one and ten minutes.  Please include a brief synopsis/summary/description of the work submitted. All films must include stamped, self-addressed return envelopes if the filmmaker wishes to have her or his films returned after the selection process is completed.  Short films should be submitted to Whiskey Creek Film Festival, c/o Cozy Theatre, 223 Jefferson Street South, Wadena, MN 56482. 

Film submissions may be in any genre, including live action and animated.  Filmmakers whose work is selected for screening at the Festival will be eligible to receive an Audience Choice award of $100 and three honorable mention awards of $50 each.  For further information, write whiskeycreekfilmfestival@gmail.com. Deadline for submissions (date of receipt) is September 6, 2011.

Short films by Minnesota filmmakers will be shown at 5:00 pm on Saturday, September 10. Admission to this special screening is free.

3. Special free film for families

Classic family films the Red Balloon and White Mane will be screened on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Go to film links for full information about these wonderful movies.
